Affordable and clean energy

Energy is fundamental to the realisation of almost all the Sustainable Development Goals. We need to ensure that people can have safe, modern and sustainable energy (e.g. electricity). This requires:

  • Use a type of energy that is pollution-free but renewable, i.e. energy that is produced from sources that last over time and do not cause pollution to the Earth (e.g. solar energy that comes from the Sun, hydroelectricity that comes from river water, wind power that comes from the wind).
  • Waste less energy. To do this, countries need to work together to study renewable energies more closely and to improve the equipment used to obtain energy.

Countries need to create even better equipment, including technology, to bring energy to even the poorest countries (in 2016, more than 2 billion people still lived without electricity).
